Mamas Know Best-Words of Wisdom From the Pros For New Moms

They say “Mamas know best” and they’re right! I mean, look at the awesome women they raised (we are those awesome women, haha.) But seriously, I still call my mom for everything. She’s my Google! I consider myself extremely blessed to be surrounded by such amazing mothers that have helped me, guided me, and continue to do so in my motherhood journey. I asked some of those special ladies about their motherhood experiences and this is what they had to say:

Nell: Mother of 2; Grandmother of 1

What has been your biggest challenge as a mother?

My biggest challenge was always trusting the baby sitters. It was very hard as a single mother to work two jobs and make sure they didn’t lack anything as well as leave them with someone who I knew they would be safe with.

What do you love the most about motherhood?

I love the fact that two totally different human beings were formed in my womb and that they carry part of me. I love being able to nurture them, guide them, encourage them and just simply be there for them when they need me. As their mother, I have the right to do that.

What advice would you give a new mom?

Motherhood is about LOVE. God has given us the opportunity to bring children into this world to teach them family values and discipline. To raise them up to be men and women of integrity who live their lives full of purpose. I advise new moms to plant the seed of Christ in their hearts and watch it flourish as they get older. Love them for who they are, unconditionally. Be quick to listen and slow to speak, be patient but most importantly cherish EVERY moment from day one and always celebrate! Life with children is a blessing.

Naty: Mother of 2; Grandmother of 2

What has been your biggest challenge as a mother?

My biggest challenge was attending college full-time and working full-time while my children were still young. Having to get up early to prepare meals for my kids, come home to help with their homework and then study and complete my assignments was hard. I never had sufficient time to play with them and that was hard for me.

What do you love the most about motherhood?

What I loved and still love about motherhood is spending time with my kids, enjoying their smiles and watching them grow happily.

What advice would you give a new mom?

The advice that I would give new mothers is to obtain their education while young so that their kids won’t have to spend most of their time with strangers. Enjoying every moment with your children is the most rewarding gift that you can give to your kids.

Maritza: Mother of 2; Grandmother of 4

What has been your biggest challenge as a mother?

Becoming a first-time mom was all around challenging for me because I used to love to sleep! Once I had my son I was forced to become an early bird. I loved every minute of it but I’m mostly grateful that I also had my mother to help me. Another challenge was when they first discharged me from the hospital after having my son. I had to leave without him because he had to be in the NICU and I hated that! I would cry because I was scared! I did not know Jesus at the time, but now I know that even then He was with my son.

What do you love the most about motherhood?

I loved everything about motherhood. Watching my children grow and when they started walking that was special. I just thank God for the man and woman that my children have become.

What advice would you give a new mom?

Not to waste any minute, take lots of pictures and do a scrapbook so when they get older they can see the life they had. That’s the most amazing thing you could do.

Migdalia: Mother of 3, Grandmother of 6

What has been your biggest challenge as a mother?

My biggest challenge as a mother was realizing that my children had grown up and were no longer going to be by my side.

What do you love the most about motherhood?

As a mother, I love to spend time and enjoy moments with my daughters.

What advice would you give a new mom?

I advise new moms to enjoy their children the most that they can, in every aspect! They grow really fast and everything changes because then they need to start building their lives with school, work and marriage. Once that happens, you won’t ever be able to enjoy them in the same way.

Isabel: Mother of 3; Grandmother of 6; Great-Grandmother of 1

What has been your biggest challenge as a mother?

My biggest challenge as a mother has been to raise my children in a culture very different from mine, but with the same values that I was raised with.

What do you love the most about motherhood?

What I love the most about being a mother is being able to witness my teachings in my children and knowing that I gave society three good and honorable people.

What advice would you give a new mom?

The advice that I would give is to never stop teaching your children the good values that your parents taught and instilled in you.

It’s amazing how most of these women don’t know each other, they all have different stories and backgrounds, yet all of them say the same thing. Motherhood is beautiful and although challenging at times, spending time with your children is worth every minute!

I hope this was as encouraging to you as it was for me! xo
