Top 20 Christian Songs to Add to Your Playlist

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MUSIC! Always have, always will.

Before I gave my life to Christ, I would listen to all kinds of music, from all different genres, Hip-Hop, R&B, Country, you name it! What I liked to hear was the beat, the melody and the voice of the person singing. If they sounded good, I was singing along.

After I gave my life to Christ, a shift took place in me. I still LOVED music, but I realized that some of the music I was listening to was not the type of music that was conducive to the lifestyle I was looking to have. I would catch myself singing along to songs that I had no business singing about. Songs that promoted emotions of bitterness because of a man who cheated on his girlfriend. Songs that spoke about one night stands and doing things that just didn’t reflect the life I wanted to live.

Hanging out with other worship leaders and Christian musicians helped me grow my list of Christian music. Now, it’s all I listen to.

I mean, why wouldn’t I? I was created to worship and glorify God, why not utilize music as a means to do so?

Music is a powerful tool that evokes emotional response-whether positive or negative. This is why it is so important to ensure that all that you let in through your ears and into your soul, are words and melodies that are going to uplift you, motivate you, inspire you and of course, glorify God.

PSALM 95:1

Come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.

So, here is a list of praise and worship songs that whether upbeat or slow, minister to me, and bring me joy! I hope they do the same for you!

Make sure your speakers on high because this list is great!

1. In The River – Jesus Culture ft. Kim Walker-Smith

This song is so full of life and I honestly didn’t know how much I liked it until I saw Kim Walker-Smith perform it in person at Worship Night in America. Man, seeing her jump all over the stage declaring that WE COME ALIVE IN THE RIVER, filled me with so much joy! The joy didn’t come from watching her preform, it came from understanding that I serve a God who, just like water from a river, is everlasting and flows through me, filling me with all that I need, filling me with LIFE!

2. Miracle – Unspoken

Now, those who listen to the K-LOVE Radio Station know that they play this song ALL THE TIME. I must have heard it 100 times until one day I happened to actually listen to the words they were singing. It starts off by saying:

Have you stopped reaching
No longer seeking greater things?
Have you forgotten, you have a Father listening?
He tells the sun when to rise, gives the wind it’s breath
Swings the door right open and moves in the moment you least expect

Woah! If that’s not motivating right there, check out the chorus:

Don’t you give up on a miracle
You gotta speak to the impossible
You gotta pray ’til your breakthrough breaks through the ceiling, keep on believing

The words to this song are so simple yet so profound and serve as a reminder that there is nothing impossible for God. It also reminds us that we have POWER to speak life to what may look impossible. This is the song that I jam out to when my faith needs a little boosting.

3. Old Church Choir – Zach Williams

Alright, so the first time I heard this song was while watching a video of a little girl singing and dancing to it during a performance at her church. The video went viral on YouTube because the little girl was the only one out of all of the children performing that was filled with so much enthusiasm and joy while singing the song. I fell in love with not only her but the song. I love how it’s so upbeat and I love professing the joy of the Lord that is within me. It truly puts a smile on my face every time I hear it.

(Here’s the video of the little girl!

4. Wake – Hillsong Young & Free

If I were to work out, which is something I need to work on, this would be my theme song. I love this song because it gets me pumped up. Who says Christians can’t have fun? Who says Christians are boring? Who says Christian music is “wack”? Tell them to listen to this!

5. Saved By Grace – Israel Houghton

Israel Houghton is one of my favorite artists and this is one of the many songs that I love from him. It’s such a fun song with such great lyrics. I’d be so lost without the grace of God and the life that I have is definitively by His grace, can I get an amen?

6. Let It Be Known – Casey J

I LOVE me some gospel music. The beat to this song makes me want to get up and dance. There’s nothing like being free to dance and sing in the presence of our Lord and Savior who gave us life and FREEDOM! I love when she says,

Nothing can stop us now
No one can keep us down
We found our voice again
Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh

Sometimes we get so caught up with who’s around, who’s watching and who’s listening that we lose our voice. I was like that when I was younger, shy to profess my love for Christ. Now, no one can stop me from driving with my windows down and blasting some Casey J through my speakers.

7. Unstoppable – Angie Rose

As you can see, I have no favorite genre, I love all music! Growing up I was exposed to a lot of rap music, so when I gave my life to Christ, rap was something from my past. It wasn’t until I started listening to Angie Rose that I realized rap wasn’t as bad as I thought it was. The first time I listened to this song I was in tears. It took me back to difficult moments I experienced growing up. It made me think of my mom and her perseverance throughout those moments. This song not only ignites hope but also ignites confidence! My favorite line:

So when I say I’m feeling unstoppable it’s ‘cus I serve a God who turns impossible to possible!

8. Glory To Glory – William Matthews

I just love it! The words are simply beautiful. William Matthews sings of how God takes us from glory to glory, in other words, from one level, to the next and the next, only going higher and higher, from victory to victory without looking back. Then he paints the picture of us in Heaven singing in anthem, Holy, Holy. Awesome!

9. Love Has A Name – Jesus Culture ft. Kim Walker-Smith

We live in a world that lacks one thing, and one thing only-LOVE. But love has a name, and that name is JESUS! I love how Kim Walker-Smith and Jesus Culture express that in this song.

The hope for every heart
The Savior of the world

10. Grace to Grace – Hillsong Worship

This song, along with the next one, take the medals for Songs That Make Me Cry Like a Baby. I don’t cry because I’m sad, I cry because LOVE was all it took for our Savior to give His life for ours. Not only did He take our sins, He gave us freedom, He gave us victory. There’s no other love like that. Sometimes we take that for granted yet, He STILL loves us!

Love paid it all to have my heart

11. Reckless Love – Cory Asbury

When I was Your foe, still Your love fought for me
You have been so, so good to me
When I felt no worth, You paid it all for me
You have been so, so kind to me

And oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God
Oh, it chases me down, fights ’til I’m found, leaves the ninety nine
And I couldn’t earn it, and I don’t deserve it, still, You give Yourself away
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God
Need I say more?

12. Made A Way – Travis Greene

This is such an encouraging song. I would not be where I am today if it weren’t for Him. He truly moves mountains and causes walls to fall. Can you think back to a time when He made a way for you? Well, He can do it again.

13. Hills And Valleys – Tauren Wells

Alright, here’s another song that makes me cry. This song got me through a very dark moment in my life. It reminds us that the same God that is with us when we are at our highs, is the same God that is with us when we are at our lows. He never abandons us and that’s what truly ministers to me. Friends and family come and go, sometimes they’re there but don’t really understand your battle, but our God is there, always understanding and ready to get us through those valleys.

14. Here’s My Heart – Lauren Daigle

I like to call this song the song of surrender. We can say we surrender but sometimes in the back of our minds we are saying “I’m surrendering but just don’t touch this little area of my life.” That’s not complete surrender. By giving your whole heart to God you are telling Him to take everything, even the areas that are dirty! Here’s my heart Lord, do as you please with it!

15. In Your Presence – Jesus Culture ft. Kim Walker-Smith

Here’s another beautiful worship song that reminds us of the power of our Heavenly Father. There’s nothing that can’t be done in the presence of the Living God.

16. You Waited – Travis Greene

I love this song because it’s so heartfelt,  almost seeming like a conversation with God, because of the close relationship we have with him.  He waited for us so patiently to get it together. Who can relate to this? Imagine that in the time that you were trying to “find yourself” God walked away. Yet He didn’t, He waited and embraced us with the most sincere love when we came back to Him.

17. Throne Room – Kim Walker-Smith

I had this song on repeat x100 when I first heard it. Therese’s something about understanding the power of being prostrated at the feet of the Master.  Understanding that at His feet, all things are possible.

18. Your Spirit- Tasha Cobbs Leonard ft. Kierra Sheard

This song is SO POWERFUL. The anointing that these women carry is evident when they open their mouths to sing this song.
It’s not by our own strength but by the Holy Spirit of God that we are living, breathing, and functioning, we NEED His spirit! I love to worship to this song, it sets the atmosphere to be right at the feet of Jesus.

19. Resurrection Power – Chris Tomlin

I love this song because it reminds me of the freedom that has been granted to me and how I have power to resurrect any situation because He resurrected me when He saved me from where I once was!

20. What A Beautiful Name – Hillsong Worship

There’s no other name like the name of Jesus. The name that heals, restores, delivers, and transforms.

You have no rival
You have no equal
Now and forever God you reign

Yours is the kingdom
Yours is the glory
Yours is the name above all names

What a POWERFUL name it is!

I can honestly go on and on with these songs. My list of favorite songs is endless, but I’ll stop here! Do you have any favorite songs that minister to you? Share them below!

  1. I’ve been browsing on-line greater than 3 hours lately, but I by no means discovered any fascinating article like yours.
It is lovely value enough for me. In my opinion, if all website owners and bloggers made just right
content material as you probably did, the web will be much more helpful
    than ever before.

  2. Great, google took me stright here. thanks btw for this. Cheers!
